Literary Blog Hop, 27 October – 31 October

Welcome to another Literary Blog Hop by the voracious reader Leeswammes who has hosted this giveaway for the past two years. There are around 50 blogs which have signed up to this and they are all giving away something book related. All their links are at the bottom of this post and anyone can visit and enter – just mind the blog’s own restrictions as some don’t post worldwide.

I am giving away a book of your choice up to the value of £10 from the Book Depository. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post and you will be entered. Since it’s so close to Halloween / Samhain feel free to leave a scary book suggestion in the comments, just for fun. This won’t affect the giveaway.

The winner needs to respond to my email within three days or I will choose someone else. That’s it! Have fun discovering new blogs.

    Thank you for the giveaway! I don’t really read scary novels, but there is one I bumped into, “Transgressions”, by Sarah Dunant. It is totally different from her historical novels, and what a scary night that was, while I was reading it 🙂

    A scary book, hmm, have you read The Radleys by Matt Haig yet? It’s not actually very scary but a great read for Halloween. And it takes place about 5 miles from where I used to live. OK, that’s more interesting for me than you, but even so!

    Scary – hmm… I don’t really find books scary. That’s more for films (especially when your Dad comes home unexpectedly in the middle of a horror film…).

    As for spooky reads.. I am not very good with them usually. However, I have just read some fantastic ones for RIP. The last one I finished was The Wolves of Willoughby Chase, which is a children’s book but very entertaining.

    I’d love to be entered, thank you! Hmmm, a scary book recommendation… I’m pretty easily spooked so I don’t read many (not before bed, anyway!), but I highly recommend ‘Long Lankin’ by Lindsey Barraclough. It’s actually a YA novel, but it’s set in a fifties village and is a beautifully written chiller based on an old ballad and the legend of Long Lankin. It was one of my favourite reads last year!

    Thanks for the giveaway. One of the scariest books I’ve ever read is The inhuman condition, by Clive Barker, and I am planning to reread The shining, by Stephen King, this month, and I suggest that and also Pet Sematary, of the same author =]

    Since you’re not taking anyone prisoner (I hope), I will admit that I am a scaredy cat and the scariest BOOK i have ever read would probably be Grave Secret by Charlaine Harris. I told you it wasn’t scary!

    How happy that I found your Blog! The pictures are so cute that you just posted. As for scary stories, I have read Stephen King, Early V.C. Andrews and so many past and current Authors. The one(sort of a crime/horror) that stayed with me long after I finished the last page; was “The Room”. I appreciate your giveaway as I love to read.     Thanks for the giveaway! I don’t read a lot of scary books but a scary book that wouldn’t be considered horror that I read this year would be Gone Girl. It’s more creepy and scary because it highlights some of the worst aspects of human behavior. It definitely gave me some weird dreams!

    The scariest thing I’ve ever read was actually a children’s book titled Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark, and it had a story about a girl how always had a ribbon on her neck. Sent shivers up my spine as a kid…to the point I hid the book.

    I do not tend to read a lot of horror books, I tend to go for psychological or suspense rather than outright horror, but Val McDermid’s “The Wire in the Blood” was quite gory and horrific though it is classified as a mystery novel.

    Thanks for your giveaway….As for recommending “scarey” in books, that could be a long list. 🙂 Like others have said, Stephen Kings books but my favorite of his is Salem’s Lot. I read that when I was a teenager and it spooked me. I would dread the sun going down. 🙂 A recent favorite is The Passage and The Woman in Black is chilling too. Happy Halloween! 🙂
